The Foundation

In 1991 we started our first day care centre in a remote hill tribe village in North Thailand, with one local teacher and 22 children. It was all very simple, improvised and exiting. Then more children projects got on their way and we named the projects we are doing “Thai Care”. As the child education projects were growing we realized that in the people living in remote areas are facing many challenges like no access to clean drinking water, only seasonal water supply, hygiene, little income, dept, etc.

As we learned more about these difficulties we started to look into different solutions how to address the problems and more projects came to life. After many years working with the villagers we realized how much and many things we are doing and felt the need to structure and legalize our work. In 2009 we registered our work as an official Foundation with the Ministry of Interior and the Rain Tree Foundation was initiated.

Still grass root focused we have now more structures and systems in place that can keep up with our growth. It is still very exciting to see how far we have come, from a simple desire to help a few in need to become a growing organization that can make a difference. We realize that we cannot change the world, but we can change the world for some people. Our strengths are limited and we are always appreciate partners who join us in our quest to help the poor.
